Tropical Astrology Predicts Chaos and Cultural Division in 2025—But It’s Only 6.67% Accurate
The Current Cosmic Picture You Need to Know
How To Be A Whale is an eco-centric craft newsletter that invites you to explore the rich tapestry of life through the lens of astrology, somatic mysticism, and mindful rituals. Written by me, Jem Ember, this newsletter is my practice to deepening my studies in the mystical realms as I attempt to bridge the place where spirituality and science meet, where my present self imbibes with my future self, and where I divulge my learnings from the ceremony of life. I speak about the mundane of motherhood, neurodivergence, gender, politics, lower-middle class life, grief, trauma, and marriage.
I love the stars because they remind me how truly unique and alien life is and that we are all connected as we surge through space at hundreds of thousands of miles an hour and yet we feel as though we are standing still.
Why does everyone think 2025 of unprecedented change?
What can we expect from astrology in 2025? You might think it’s going to be something unprecedented, but history has a way of repeating itself. Between 1850 and 1852, significant events unfolded that mirror some of the transformative energy we can anticipate in 2025. The abolition of slavery in the U.S. (though not truly the end of oppression), the California Gold Rush (which, in hindsight, turned out to be more of a scam than a boon), and the rapid rise of industrialization all marked a time of immense societal change and disruption. Fast forward to 2025, and the astrological alignments and cultural shifts echo these moments of transformation and upheaval. What can astrology tell us about the year ahead, and how are these past events relevant to our present and future? Let’s explore.
I've been an astrologer for six years now, ever since I became completely captivated during a particularly dull winter semester English class. Bored out of my mind, I kept stumbling across astrology memes, which sparked a curiosity that led me to dive headfirst into the world of astrology—and I haven't come up for air since. Along the way, I've come to understand why astrology gets so much flack: most people just don't know what they're talking about.
One of the biggest challenges with modern astrology—and astrologers—is the hesitance to approach the practice with a structured, systematic level of expertise. It’s similar to how modern mechanics often lack a holistic understanding of vehicles, focusing instead on replacing and diagnosing parts in isolation rather than understanding their interconnected systems. Likewise, healthcare has grown overly specialized, where doctors often treat symptoms without addressing the root cause of the problem. The same disjointed approach plagues astrology today, leaving much of its potential untapped.
Most astrologers these days seem to dabble in what I like to call fortune-cookie astrology, prioritizing trends over depth. Their language is a dead giveaway—buzzwords like "season," "cusp," or "the big three" dominate their lexicon. They rely on sweeping generalizations: fire signs are impulsive, Scorpios are vindictive, Pisces men are too obsessive. It’s astrology lite—catchy, but hardly scratching the surface of what the stars might truly reveal.
Long ago, astrology and astronomy were intertwined and overtime the spiritual, mythic, mysterious were stripped away and astrology was obfuscated. It was only a mere 400 years ago when astrology and astronomy sat hand in hand. Astrology, once revered as a tool by all was discarded by most continuing to be practiced by individuals on the fringe such as witches and heretics or “uncivilized” peoples such as way-finders in Polynesia, diviners of the Zulu people, or the elders of the Lakota who believe the milky way is our connection to the Wičháȟpi Oyáte (star people).
This sacred synergy unraveled. With the rise of scientific rationalism during the Age of Enlightenment, astrology was separated from astronomy. What had once been a holistic practice combining observation, spirituality, and storytelling was divided. Astronomy became a hard science, focused on empirical evidence and measurable data. Meanwhile, astrology—stripped of its once-integral role in understanding the cosmos—was relegated to the fringes as a mystical, often misunderstood art.
In the process, much of astrology’s mythic and spiritual richness was diluted. As cultures modernized, the intricate symbolic language of the stars gave way to simplified, digestible formats like newspaper horoscopes and pop-culture soundbites.
So why is astrology such a hot mess to get right?
Astrology is highly technical. In explaining something like the lunar nodes we need to be able to speak also to torque, gravitational pull, orbit, ecliptic, etc. As the earth attempts to pull the moon into our orbit and the moon thus continues to resist it changes than angle of the moons orbit around the earth subtlety so the nodes change every 18 months or so. Nodes are mathematical points not actual physical locations. Thus the nodes tell us how the moon is orbiting the earth at this time and space which gives us a nuanced view at the moon’s movement in space which is interpreted as direction of the collective consciousness since it is quite literally changing the orbit of the earth and earth is changing orbit in relationship to the earth.
We know as scientific fact that the moon’s orbit and phase have significant impact over the tides of the ocean. New scientific ventures have also discovered there are more tidal phases than just in the ocean but on earth’s crust which effects tectonic plates, glaciers, and mountains.1
Another example of the technical elements of astrology is the algorithms used to track planetary movements in relationship to the eliptic belt of the constellations. This tracking is what we mean when we say, “the Sun is in Capricorn” or “Mars is in Cancer” we are looking up at the sky and see that the constellation of Capricorn overlaps the sun. In western astrology we use a tropical algorithm developed over 2000 years ago which fixed the stars to specific dates which is why we get terminology like it’s “Capricorn Season.” Tropical astrology is the only algorithm that uses a fixed date system. All sidereal systems known as Ayanamsas use an observable algorithm based on the precession of the equinoxes, accounting for the fact that the Earth's orientation relative to the constellation belt shifts approximately 1 degree every 72 years.
Two thousand years ago, tropical and sidereal astrology algorithms were on point. Fast forward to today, and tropical astrology is off by a solid 25 degrees—basically a whole constellation! So, yeah, tropical astrology is like 93.33% wrong these days. Oops.
The year ahead according to tropical astrology is based off these movements:
The Nodes shift into Pisces/Virgo on Jan. 11th
Neptune moves into Aries
Saturn moves into Aries
Jupiter moves into Cancer
Uranus moves into Gemini
Pluto orbiting through Aquarius
These shifts, if they were to all co-occur in one year, would be incredibly dynamic and unprecedented. Most of these positions have not occurred in hundreds of years last occurring at the start of major wars — Uranus in Gemini last occurred before the American civil war, Neptune in Aries last occurred during the beginning of World War I but only by the tropical algorithm which in the last hundred years has become one whole sign off of the truth.
If you were to step outside and look up at the stars using a telescope or even your naked eye you’d see that the constellation of Gemini does not currently overlap Jupiter…it overlaps with Taurus. Jupiter is currently in Taurus and before it moves into Cancer needs to ingress (enter) Gemini.
In reality, if you rely on your own eyes to track the stars, you'll quickly discover that not a single astrological movement in 2025 holds up. So, when it comes to predictions based on tropical astrology for 2025, let's just say they don’t quite match the stars.
So, what’s actually going to happen in 2025? Let’s break it down:
Mark on the calendar planetary movements
Explore the events that are likely to unfold… (without attempting to predict the future), because surprise! Astrology isn’t about fortune-telling. It’s about syncing with the natural rhythms of life. Just like how equinox kicks off on spring and birds return, babies are born, and flowers bloom—astrology helps us align with these cosmic cycles, not forecast what's coming next. Cool?
I’ll relay some cultural interpretations
But here’s the thing—just like everything else in life, these events don’t happen in a vacuum. They are interconnected, part of a much larger picture. Think about how a girl’s first period isn’t triggered by just one thing, but by a combination of factors that build up over time Factors like nutrition, stress, and overall health all play into the timing of menarche (the first period), with no single one holding all the power. So, in the same way, astrology doesn’t work in isolation; the cosmic shifts we’re seeing in 2025 are part of a greater, interwoven reality including your own consciousness.

If you're seeking something more personal and specific, I invite you to schedule a Creation Story consultation with me. 🫀🌈
Let’s start with what will not change because it already changed and we all missed it…
Pluto
I want to begin here with Pluto because it’s got a lot of attention as in moved from Capricorn to Aquarius in 2024. At least, if you follow tropical astrology. I even wrote a whole article on this transition and what it means… But tropical astrology is now 25 degrees off of accurate cosmic alignment. So while my interpretations are correct, I was mistaken to attribute this change to the present day. Pluto ingressed into Capricorn on Dec 31st, 2020 and will not ingress into Aquarius until 2039.
Neptune
Like Pluto, Neptune is also set to make waves this year in tropical astrology, in the Ayanamsas or observable sky Neptune made its’ debut into Pisces on April 18th, 2022 and will not ingress into Aries until 2036.
Ingresses: What planets will change sign?
The Nodes will shift into Aquarius (North) and Leo (South) — May 2nd, 2025
Saturn will ingress (enter) Pisces — April 6th, 2025
Uranus will leave Aries on April 8th, 2025 and enter Taurus
Jupiter will ingress into Gemini on May 19th until Nov 6th when it ingresses Cancer for two weeks before retrograding (RX) back into Gemini for the rest of 2025
These movements are regular and expected as the nodes change every approximately (~) 18 months, Saturn changes signs every ~2.5 years, Uranus ~7 years, and Jupiter every 12 months.
Retrogrades: Should We Expect Shifts?
Retrogrades are a common and normal part of the planetary experience because each planet orbits the Sun at different speeds and has its own unique rotation period. A planet’s day (the time it takes to complete one full rotation on its axis) and year (the time it takes to complete one orbit around the Sun) vary significantly. For example, Venus has a year of about 225 Earth days, while Neptune takes 165 Earth years to complete one orbit.
A retrograde occurs when a planet appears to move backward from our perspective on Earth. This optical illusion happens because Earth and the retrograde planet are moving at different speeds in their orbits. If Earth passes a faster-moving planet (like Mercury or Venus), we see that planet appear to go "backward" in the sky. In contrast, when a planet that is farther from the Sun, like Neptune, falls out of sync with Earth, it can also create the illusion of retrograde motion. The key takeaway is that retrogrades aren't caused by the planet actually reversing its orbit, but by our changing relative positions as we orbit the Sun at different rates. This produces an interpretation of disruption or miscommunication because earth is in a different year than the other. A time-space problem.
Mercury retrogrades three times every year for approximately three weeks.
In 2025, Mercury will retrograde from…
March 22-April 16th (26 days)
July 18th-August 10th (14 days)
November 10th-November 28th (18 days)
Venus retrogrades about every 18th months and we will experience a Venusian retrograde in 2025
March 2nd-April 12th (40 days)
Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus will all enter retrogrades this year.
As Neptune and Uranus are often in retrogrades from our perspective the difference between them retrograding and being direct are subtle almost negligible. Nonetheless Uranus will enter a retrograde state in September and Neptune in July. Jupiter and Saturn will both retrograde in November.
Eclipse Season
“Nodal precession of the lunar nodes as the Earth revolves around the Sun causes an eclipse season approximately every six months. The rate of precession depends on the inclination of the orbital plane to the equatorial plane, as well as the orbital eccentricity.”
Eclipses occur when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align in space, not just because of their motion. These celestial bodies rotate on their own axes and orbit on distinct planes, with eclipses happening during specific alignments known as "eclipse seasons," occurring roughly every six months. Eclipses have held deep cultural and mythic significance throughout history, symbolizing powerful events such as the ancient Greeks viewing the solar eclipse of 585 BCE as a sign of divine displeasure, which led to a temporary peace between warring factions. The Maya, on the other hand, interpreted lunar eclipses as times when the moon was being consumed by a jaguar, a mythic creature that symbolized darkness, and used these events to mark key moments in their calendar system, guiding agricultural and ceremonial activities. Lunar eclipses move through phases, including total, partial, and penumbral, while solar eclipses feature total, partial, and annular phases.2
In 2025, here’s what will happen:
Total Lunar eclipse on March 14th, 2025 visible in North and South America, Europe, Africa
Partial Solar eclipse on March 29th, 2025 visible in NE North America, Greenland, Europe
Total Lunar eclipse on September 7th, 2025 visible in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, New Zealand
Partial Solar eclipse on September 21st, 2025 visible in Antarctica, New Zealand

Wether or not you want to apply mythic, psychological, anthropomorphic, animist, or archetypal meaning to these occurrences. They will occur and be visible in the sky in 2025. Just as the tides will change, the seasons will turn, and the sun will appear to rise and fall… these too will occur.
If we did want to apply mythic, psychological, anthropomorphic, animist, or archetypal meaning what might we see in these individual events?
Let’s begin with what we missed…
Pluto in Capricorn speaks as a force of transformation, demanding us to respect the rhythms of the earth and the deep wisdom held within its bones. It calls for disciplined change, urging us to honor the ancient systems while dismantling the structures that no longer serve the greater whole. This transit compels us to listen to the land, the ancestors, and the unseen energies, guiding us to rebuild from a place of respect and understanding, laying down roots for future generations. It is a time to face the reality of power, authority, and legacy, allowing lasting shifts to unfold in their own time.
Neptune in Pisces the planet of illusion and inspiration, journeys through its home sign of Pisces, inviting us to dive deep into the realm of the unconscious. This transit stirs our sensitivity, unlocking artistic creativity and spiritual insight. Yet, it also carries the shadow of confusion and escapism, urging us to stay grounded. Neptune in Pisces calls us to embrace our inner mystic, while challenging the very fabric of our reality, asking us to question what we see and trust in the wisdom that lies beneath the surface.
Then to what’s next…
The Nodes in Aquarius (North) and Leo (South) May 2nd, 2025: This transit invites a psychological shift toward embracing innovation, individuality, and community (Aquarius North Node), while confronting past patterns rooted in ego, drama, and self-centeredness (Leo South Node). It’s a moment to shed outdated personal narratives and foster growth in areas like social connection, humanitarian work, and authentic self-expression. The emphasis is on balancing personal identity with collective progress, guiding us toward a more inclusive, authentic, and psychologically healthy future.
Saturn in Pisces, April 6th, 2025: brings a journey of discipline and spiritual awakening. As the taskmaster planet of structure moves through the realm of dreams and emotions, it calls us to forge boundaries between the mystical and the practical. This transit asks us to shape our ideals into reality, weaving our dreams into the fabric of everyday life. Saturn in Pisces also beckons us toward healing, urging us to confront the hidden wounds of the psyche and transform them into sources of strength. It’s a time for deep emotional maturity, personal growth, and the integration of spiritual wisdom into the tangible world, marking the potential for profound transformation.
Uranus in Taurus, April 8th, 2025: a profound shift in our relationship with the Earth, material security, and the values that bind us to the land. As Uranus, the spirit of innovation and disruption, moves through Taurus, the Earth herself stirs, challenging us to reevaluate how we engage with the soil, our resources, and our financial systems. New technologies in agriculture and sustainable practices call for a deep, respectful change in how we interact with the natural world. On a personal level, this transit encourages a more conscious, flexible approach to our material lives, reminding us that true wealth lies in our connection with the Earth, our values, and our ability to adapt to new rhythms.
Jupiter in Gemini, May 19th-Nov 5th / Rx Nov. 13th & Jupiter in Cancer Nov 6th-Nov 13th: brings expansion through communication, learning, and connection. As the planet of growth enters the sign of the twins, expect a surge in curiosity, intellectual exploration, and adaptability. This transit encourages versatility in thinking, boosting social interactions and the sharing of ideas. It’s a great time for networking, embracing new philosophies, or picking up new skills. However, be mindful of scattered energy—focus will be key to turning all the new information into something productive. Jupiter in Gemini is a time to grow by staying curious, open-minded, and ready for unexpected opportunities. As Jupiter briefly wades into the soothing waters of Cancer for two weeks, we might feel a subtle push toward personal growth by strengthening our foundations, deepening connections, and trusting our intuition. This transit highlights emotional well-being and encourages a sense of harmony within our home and relationships.
Venus, Mars, and Mercury will move through each sign, creating dynamic and progressive shifts that will influence the slower-moving planets mentioned earlier. As they move through the zodiac, they interact with the slower-moving planets, stirring subtle yet transformative shifts. These planets, with their inherent rhythms, encourage dynamic changes within the cosmic ecosystem, like the seasonal winds shifting the tides or the earth’s soil changing with the phases of the moon. Venus, Mars, and Mercury are the messengers of transformation, channeling the flow of energy that moves through the universe, guiding us to new experiences and fresh perspectives. As they pass through each sign, they awaken dormant forces within us, tipping the scales and driving both internal and external change, like winds that shift the course of a river or sparks that light a fire in the forest.
But remember—just like everything else in life, these events don’t happen in a vacuum. They are interconnected, part of a much larger picture that weaves together the rhythms of the cosmos. Every cosmic event, no matter how seemingly small, ripples through the fabric of existence, influencing not just the planets but the lives and actions of those on Earth. We are all part of this vast interconnected web, and understanding these connections allows us to gain deeper insights into how the universe is guiding us.
How do we holistically interpret 2025?
As we look ahead to 2025, it's clear that the themes of rebuilding, healing, and growth will shape the collective experience. Saturn's transit through Pisces invites us to integrate spiritual wisdom into our practical structures, while Uranus’ journey through Taurus urges us to rethink our material systems and values. The eclipses—both lunar and solar—offer opportunities for deep emotional and spiritual transformation. For a long time, we’ve craved institutional change and a deeper reconnection to purpose and authentic living. We long to step out of the neatly boxed lives we've created for ourselves and return to something real, but it's a confusing time.
In 2025, we will witness profound shifts in critical areas that challenge our systems, values, and humanity’s future. The way we farm and feed the world will undergo significant upheaval, as new methods of agriculture emerge to address the urgent need for sustainability. These "come to Jesus" moments will compel us to confront outdated and harmful systems governing our food sources. Similarly, in healthcare, we will explore innovative approaches to balancing technology, human connection, and holistic healing as traditional healthcare systems struggle to adapt to evolving challenges.
In the environmental realm, pressing issues like microplastics and waste management will force us to reconsider how we live, consume, and dispose of resources. Our increasing awareness of mass consumerism will trigger a necessary slowdown in unchecked growth, leading to a more conscientious and mindful approach to consumption. This shift will not only transform individual behavior but will also push industries to evolve, reducing waste and promoting sustainability. As technology advances, people will become more technically proficient in their fields, growing increasingly systems-minded and interconnected in their thinking.
Yet, the opposite will also unfold. While some will embrace innovation, others will retreat into deceptive marketing schemes and false narratives about health, exploiting people's desires for wellness. In response, insurance companies will cling to outdated policies, desperately trying to maintain control. Doctors will be forced to navigate a healthcare landscape without the traditional support structures, innovating new ways of operating. Politically, we may see increased efforts to control speech, behavior, and personal expression, with policies designed to suppress dissent. But, in defiance, people will rise to defend their right to be heard. Some will embrace systems of control, others will surrender to them, but many will resist, standing firm for a new vision of society built on freedom, innovation, and justice. This transformative moment will lead the way toward new paradigms of existence and collective empowerment, especially between 2036 and 2039.
Rather than relying on astrology for direct predictions or magical solutions, it's more valuable to approach it as a tool for reflection, self-exploration, and guidance. The stars remind us that we are part of something much larger. Even when we feel small or insignificant, we are an integral part of the vast and interconnected tapestry of existence. As we journey through 2025, let us embrace these cosmic rhythms—not as fortune-telling, but as an invitation to live more consciously and in tune with the universe, trusting that the journey, with all its ups and downs, is exactly as it’s meant to be. If you're seeking something more personal and specific, I invite you to schedule a Creation Story consultation with me.
By aligning with the cosmic cycles, we can navigate 2025 not as passive observers of fate but as active participants in the unfolding story of our lives and the world around us. Through reflection, innovation, and connection, we can evolve alongside the stars, just as we always have.
